Not much luck with 43 Places

Posted: January 27, 2007 in EVO 2007 Tasks

I posted to 43 Places today and tried to post to my blog as well.  I kept getting an error message.  When I went back several hours later to try again, I saw that my post had been aded to 43 Places 12 times!  I deleted 11 of them.  None of the 12 showed up on my blog, though!  Guess I will try again later.

I think what you say here: “I think that I need to better explain the reasons behind this to my students. In order to do that, I have to be clear aout it myself. What do I expect them to get from blogging and from the wiki? Do I know, or am I just playing with these new toys?” is really crucial. I ask myself this question in every educational context and with every different group of students that I teach. It’s not a question that has one answer, but a question that can have a couple possible ones. Asking these questions makes us really prepared to incorporate technology in education. If we don’t concern ourselves with these questions, I don’t believe we can use technology meaningfully.

I would add to your list of reasons (voice and audience), I think I would add the authenticity of materials that students can encounter when using wikis or blogs (by linking to those). Another aspect that I love about blogging or wikis is the opportunity for collaborative work that can bring people together from other parts of the world. Would your students be interested in exchanging thoughts and ideas with other men preparing for priesthood in different parts of the world? I think that blogging can give them an opportunity to develop personal contacts with people with whom they would be able to get in touch otherwise. There is a great potential in all of it! 🙂

Hi Nancy, exactly the same thing happened to me and never got the entry posted to my blog. I just gave up. To tell you the truth, I was not that excited with the 43 sites and this particular experience made have not second but third thoughts about ever using it personally.
    Warm regards, Berta
